u need to get it trimmed slightly to maintain it every like 4, 6 months, u need a proper routine, you need to care for it so that it doesnt get damaged, you have to search through it all for split ends and cut them off. use heat protectant, leave in conditioners, hair oils, hair mousse for styling and so on, know what hair type you have and wash it and style it accordingly. you can do it :) it takes a lot of experimentation but eventually you’ll get there

i think i have a similar curl type as you and what i do is brush wet with a little conditioner, then shampoo, then a lot of conditioner and brush again, rinse and apply curls cream (or activator not sure what’s it called in english) WITHOUT scrunching (it creates frizz, for me at least) or just one slow scrunch and without any gel which I also find ruins my hair. i will also sometimes tie it inside a shirt on my head for like half an hour. then if i have the time air dry, or most of the time just sleep with it wet, which works for me but is admittedly not advisable at all.

my advice is to not overcomplicate the routine (mine was mostly as an example) just settle on something that’s not too annoying and works for you. i’d say that the products matter the most, and it’s best to have as little as possible again not to overcomplicate it. the most important thing is to get a good shampoo and conditioner (i use google lens and paste the ingredients into isitcg or curlsbot websites), and experiment a lot with what works the best. your hair’s needs also change over time and with using one product for a long time so if something stops working you can usually guess what it is and try different products

also note that for good curls you need healthy hair which can take a lot of time if it was damaged before, or if for any other reason it doesn’t work anyway you can just try to embrace the frizz. what i used to do was to brush them out very gently with a flexible brush and a shit ton of leave in conditioner and it looked great as well.

my routine is kinda similar, I feel like I just haven’t found the right products yet. I’ve been trying so many different things for years, but I don’t like to throw things away, so I stick with a product until I’ve used it up, even if it doesn’t really work for me :/

it’s hard to give specific product advice because it really depends on where you live, but you can always try asking people you see with similar hair to yours. it may seem kinda weird but i get questions like that quite often from people i meet and it’s a good way to start a conversation as well

I hear gels are pretty useful. you’re also supposed to crunch it to dry it I think. Sorry, that’s the one kind of hair I don’t know much about.
