Verified OCD-haver here. I recommend taking a look at ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention). The basic gist of it is that by exposing yourself to your fear, and showing your nervous system that you can face the fear, you will become less afraid of it over time.

I’m actually afraid of this one too, specifically getting phone calls out of the blue with bad news. If you have a therapist, they can help you out with this, though you can also do some on your own or with a friend.

A starting point would be to imagine the situation. For example- just picturing yourself making a phone call. Going through the conversation. As that gets easier, writing it down, speaking it out loud. This allows you to experience the situation is a less powerful way.

Then with a friend, you could pretend to have a phone call out loud, in the same room. Basically roleplaying the act of making a phone call. You could even be in the same room and talk on your phones.

If you’re specifically afraid of phone calls with like a medical provider or something “official”, you can do that with a friend too, I’m sure there’s scripts out there that they could follow to build resiliency.

Best of luck with this. Definitely talk to a therapist if you have one, it’s not always easy but it’s doable.
