I would love to see the old Sheffield Victoria Station reopen and express services run to an expanded Manchester Piccadilly via the Penistone/North Peak route. Running something like 1-2 services an hour, with a possibility to expand the route to Doncaster via Meadowhall inorder to link up with the East Coast Mainline. Also possibly linking up services to Liverpool.
For rolling stock I would like to see an accessible train like the Class 755/FLIRT or an adapted version of the Class 345 used by the Elizabeth line (albeit with passenger toilets and a better top speed)
** In all seriousness, reopening Victoria Station could serve as a catalyst for revitalising a quite deprived area of the city, especially if it is linked up to the tram network and happens in tandem with other projects such as restoring the old town hall.
