    you have a good eye, but you made a small error. While Somali can be written in arabic script (Osmanya or Ga’ez historically) our official orthography has been Latin based since 1972. You would only see it that way if you learned it through older texts or maybe certain regional contexts. (maybe with some of the more rural areas, like the south where I am from.)

      gotcha that’s cool! i always like asking about the changes. for instance Korean had a pretty gradual transition away from han glyphs to hangul and ppl sometimes learned the old script in school. i asked my Vietnamese friend similarly as they historically wrote in han script instead of latin like now but apparently there, nobody learns the old way except for like calligraphy that isn’t really meant for anyone to read

        I still know the old way, though the transition was made long after I was born. It’s a shame many don’t, since the calligraphy is so pretty
