the character is kind of like the archetypal sinful or evil woman [electric light orchestra riff plays]. I think its adoption as a name aligns to a resentment of your god or society while still falling into its roles of womanhood.

Alternately, and this is likely not the case for most Liliths, the name is also important to the history of a cult/religion called Thelema. Aleister Crowley, the founder of that cult/religion,'s daughter was named Lilith.

Her full name was Nuit Ma Ahathoor Hecate Sappho Jezebel Lilith Crowley, and when she died of typhoid at 2yo it was joked that she died of asphyxiation trying to say her own name. The Thelemic premise of a “guardian angel” has helped me out quite a lot in my own transition, and I might have gone with the name Lilith if I was interested in Thelema earlier in my transition, and If I wasn’t aware of it as a clocky name.

Lilith in astrology (aka the black moon) is considered to represent the more primal side of the moons energy. In the more new-age movement of modern astrology it is considered tied to the divine feminine (much like the moon in that same movement)

lilith was the first woman created by god in some versions of jewish mythology, turned demon iirc? also personally i liked the name because of the character on cheers/frasier, thankfully i decided against it in the end
