like i mostly listen to russian post punk music as my background music, but its not just a “i love russia” thing, i like all post post punk and also prefer music in languages i dont know cause the words don’t distract me while reading. i also listen to swedish death metal and used to listen to german rock,
i also have an affinity for “post soveit esthetic” but its cause it looks like a mixture of the third world countries i grew up in and canada where i am now. i try not to be werid about it, but it feels weirdly familiar yet distant from my childhood in poorer countries that i try to forget about.
i m crine?
It’s cringe, post soviet aesthetic is really depressive when u actually live in it, as a Ukrainian I don’t like think that all Russians are bad, 99% yeah, but there’s trannies from Russia who don’t support that government and plenty of people who understand that it’s shit as well
hmmm, ya, tbc i dont love russia or think that its awesome to live in those places. i try to be understanding and not glorify it

I listen to Farsi music but that doesn’t mean i support the Iranian theocratic regime in any way, just like liking American music doesn’t make all of us warmongering fascists despite our gov’t. But yes, some people don’t like/acknowledge nuance and just equate country = homogeneous all-bad mass.
If you’re worried about bringing it up in person, then i’d just lead with saying you don’t like it bc you like Russia, it just sounds cool. I understand how people attach trauma caused by countries to the entire populace, tho, so it is important to try gauging someone’s attitude/response to such a topic before broaching it imo.
it’s okay to love a culture.
Russian culture is nothing but murder, oppression and slavery. It’s like being a fan of the culture of the confederacy.
