The thought of slathering paint on my face makes me feel like a clown. How do I overcome this? Should I even try to overcome this? Am i retarded?

if it’s something you’ve never done, it’s gonna feel awkward, uncomfortable, or frustrating when the first times doing it feel weird or don’t turn out as nice as you hoped. it can feel defeating, but it’s one of those things that you simply have to expose yourself to over time while making adjustments as you notice things. Kind of like throwing a bunch of paint at a canvas and then slowly removing what doesn’t fit until what’s left does.
I knew I wanted to wear makeup but felt very gross early in my transition when it came out looking horrible. I found starting with a single thing, like practicing eyeliner, is easiest. Work on your hand stability, how thick of a line you want, what parts angles and shapes you like vs don’t like. Then over time slowly add one more thing here and there. Maybe you like your eyeliner one day finally and wish you had eye shadow of a certain color to compliment it. Try that the next day and see how the hand movements feel slightly different from applying eyeliner. Do you like how the color you used today looked? Would a bit of cheek blush help accentuate it? Try that the next day. And so on. If you put some on, look in the mirror, and think “I hate how this looks”, next time consciously pay attention as best you can while applying it and avoid the same movements/style.
Also don’t feel like you have to rush or learn it all at once or otherwise you’re a failure. The initial discouragement i felt lasted literally years, but i came back to it with the mentality above and while I still don’t do full faces of makeup yet, doing my eye makeup each day is quick, pretty clean, and feels satisfying now and has become another tool in my belt for styling myself that i can use or ignore whenever
(sorry this is so long, but it’s something i’m actively working on and care about lol)
What a thorough answer, thank you so much!
happy to help :)
