Voice training and vocal coach - barrage of questions
Troons who have voice trained and/or have some knowledge about the subject… is it possible to raise voice above your natural range?
I went to a voice coach (cis btw, and not specializing in transsexual voice training though she does do it) for the first time the other day. She had me do some basic raising/lowering exercises to determine my voice range (deeper than most cis men’s FML.)
She said that with luck the highest I could get my normal speaking voice while being healthy and not straining or damaging it would be dead center middle of the androgynous/overlap zone (not identifiably female), at the high point of my current range.
My question is, does this sound right? I’ve done some basic preliminary research beforehand and was always under the impression that troons could raise their normal voice to a very high and clearly feminine register through, like, practice and shit.
To be clear, I can in theory raise my voice to a pitch that’s higher than my natural range, it’s just very hoarse, quiet, and prone to voice cracks. Also very difficult to maintain. I was under the impression voice training would take the form of practicing THIS voice (that I term the “Old Marge Simpson” voice) until I could maintain it and actually use it.
