Yay! It becomes more funny the more you know about it all. Yelling “Welcome”, “Irasshaimase” in Japanese, is very important. I don’t really get why, but Japanese people put a lot of emphasis on it or think that other Japanese people think it’s important. To me it feels as if they think they are bullshitting everybody by either doing it or by being upset by the lack of it.

The perceived importance of it gets to the point that when Japanese businesses fail, the higher-ups often enough blame it on the ordinary employees and their lack of enthusiasm when yelling “Irasshaimase!”. The thinking really has an anime vibe to it, as if you can fix flawed business structures by just trying harder/yelling louder.

Japanese people are so petty, it’s insane. They would never say it to the face of the one they accuse, but through the anonymity the internet provides they complain about everything, even the clientele.

I think far worse are the ones where they list lots of positive things about the place without any negative remarks, only to still hit it with a three star review.

I can understand high standards more, imo 3 stars should be the average but sadly it’s not the case

It’s more of the standard in Japan than the West, they really are likelier to give three stars if something is average, but there are still MANY who only give three after having it made clear in their own review that it is above average.
