for context I live in a very rural American town with under 6K residents. While my state is Blue, the people in my town are very very conservative and have consistently voted red. our newspaper has been going for a long time now, since before i was born, and i picked it up today while i was getting plants for my mom’s garden. this article was on the FRONT PAGE and is the MOST POPULAR article of ALL TIME on the newspaper’s website. of ALL TIME.

the title is “Outrage erupts over trans … student using girls’ bathroom”. Here are some excerpts:

“The angry father of a … student is calling for the district to change its policy on bathroom access for transgender students after he reports a transgender classmate barged into his daughter’s bathroom stall.”

“This isn’t the first time parents have complained to the school about this particular student, a transgender girl who was born male. The letter states … other parents, have made numerous calls to the school’s principal about this student using the girls’ bathroom.”

“He said the transgender student was looking through the cracks of his daughter’s stall while she was inside, and then after acknowledging it was her in the stall, pushed the door open.”

Here’s the absolute worst line of them all: “'This incident is just indicative of that larger issue, which we believe is kind of a common sense issue — that boys and girls are different, and there’s a reason why we have different bathrooms for people who are male and female,'

I hate being a tranny. I hate being in the school system. We genuinely need to start [removed by reddit].

i went to the school i’m talking about and i used to have to use the female restrooms, we live in a poor rural area and i remember a lot of the doors had barely functioning locks if they had locks at all. you’d have to put your foot against the door to stop it from swinging open sometimes. but to play devils advocate, it’s weird if the door was locked and she forced her way in.
