Yes, this extends to all interracial relationships. I’ve never been in a relationship with anyone white, but from observing friends in them there’s always a level of “casual racism” and fetishism done for fun in the relationship. It took me a minute to realize they genuinely just like it and enjoy being fetishized on the basis of race.

I was being hyperbolic in the post. My actual opinion is that systems of oppression are too rooted in society to be escapable in our personal relationships. Like, misogyny is oftentimes perpetrated in hetero relationships. Not because either person identifies as a misogynist. Because misogyny is so deeply ingrained in our gender roles and expectations that it’s kind of a given to show up in some ways.

Racism is no different. And I do see small forms of racism show up in the interracial relationships of other people that they don’t correct at all (this is in both parties) it’s just unavoidable. Most people aren’t “anti-racist” Obviously if you feel this doesn’t apply to you thats fine.

Some people of color like the subtle forms of fetishization present when engaging with people of a different race, or even their own. I’m not talking about explicit forms of racism.

Like the idea of black men being sexually virile and having big dicks is a form that is often perpetuated by both people in interracial black relationships for example
