the creature designs are so fucking disgusting and awesome and the movie’s atmosphere is so so so oppressive.

the reveal at the midway point of the assassin, for the first time we’ve seen them, trembling in fear as they reach the bottom layer and we realize they’re just an expendable drone was awesome.

i know a lot of people would’ve liked if it was a more generic movie about a single main character’s long descent; but that has been done a bajillion times1 and would’ve been a ginormous waste of all the creativity that went into the rest of the film.

anyways, last night i was edging THE Breakdown of 2026; but i decided to watch Mad God on a whim and it was SO disgusting and horrifying that it overrode my emotions and allowed me to feel a catharsis and fall asleep.

ended up having nightmares in said sleep, but that’s besides the point 😸

    addendum:

    my BIGGEST issue with the film was the fact that Shudder bought dist. rights and put “SHUDDER ORIGINAL” on it.

    it was like seeing “Amazon Original” at the start of Project Hail Mary; but even worse cuz of how long it took to make Mad God.
