It’s so far underground that you can go to Penn Station and walk to Grand Central Terminal in the time it takes you to go to Grand Central Madison and then get to street level. Literal petty dickery. Mamdani and Hochul please merge these fucking networks yesterday.

      Also MNRR uses bottom contact third rail (under running) while LIRR uses top contact third rail (overrunning) so making both railroads share tracks is tricky if not impossible

        Surely they could’ve found a way to make it work. It seems like that’d be easier than building a deep-ass station in the bottom of New York.

          Tbhon they were alr boring new tunnels to GC it wasn’t that hard to make the end of the tunnels into platforms vs making more bored tunnels to interconnect them into MNRR’s network and that’s assuming we somehow make the trains able to use both types of 3rd rail without changing out the electrical shoe
