I think it goes a little beyond being sensitive telling people not to kill themselves.

I suppose that’s true, but what would you have anyone do? take a thoughtful pause before telling them not to rope? explain their philosophy on why someone shouldn’t rope? You can never really know the internal reasoning of someone else, even if you may be right in part.
