this is a valid way to do tarot for beginners for sure but i would say you should work on understanding the hermetic tradition more broadly, especially as it relates to tarot. understanding the elements and numerology will basically enable you to read any of the minor arcana without memorising card meanings. traditionally the major arcana had much more emphasis on their pictograms (this is why even the tarot de marseille has pictograms on the major arcana) but learning the underlying traditions will allow you to gain much more deep meaning from the pictograms than simply looking at them with an untrained eye
